There is something about a new season that makes us look around and wonder what comes next.
Sometimes we wait for the perfect opportunity.
We wait until we have more money, more time, more confidence, more followers, more experience, or simply until life feels a little less messy.
We tell ourselves, I’ll do it when the timing is better.
But what if the timing we’ve been waiting for isn’t coming?
What if God is asking us to move forward with what we already have?
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately.
Not because I have everything figured out. Quite honestly, I don’t.
I am still learning. Still growing. Still trying to balance the different pieces of my life. I am a wife, a mom, a teacher, a children’s ministry director, an author, and a woman who is still learning what it looks like to faithfully say yes to God in the middle of an ordinary, sometimes exhausting life.
And lately, I’ve been reminded that God doesn’t always call us into something when we’re completely ready.
Sometimes He calls us while we’re still nervous.
While we’re still wondering if anyone will listen.
While we’re looking at the numbers and thinking, Is anybody even paying attention?
While we’re wondering if our little corner of the world matters.
It does.
Your little corner matters.
That conversation you had with someone who needed encouragement matters.
That book you wrote matters.
That Sunday morning serving in the nursery matters.
That classroom where you are pouring into children matters.
That post you almost didn’t share because you weren’t sure anyone would care might be exactly what someone needed to read that day.
We have a tendency to measure significance by numbers.
How many people followed.
How many people liked.
How many people watched.
How many people showed up.
How many people bought the book.
How many people knew our name.
But God has never measured faithfulness that way.
Jesus left the ninety-nine for the one.
The widow’s offering looked small compared to what others were giving, but Jesus noticed it.
The boy’s five loaves and two fish looked insufficient, but Jesus used them.
Moses had excuses.
Gideon felt insignificant.
David was overlooked.
And yet God was not limited by what they lacked.
Maybe you’re looking at what you have today and thinking it’s not enough.
Maybe you have a small platform.
A small business.
A small ministry.
A small audience.
A small bank account.
A small dream that you’ve been afraid to say out loud.
Maybe you’re wondering if you should even keep going.
I want to remind you of something I’ve had to remind myself of:
Small does not mean insignificant.
God can do a lot with something surrendered to Him.
So perhaps this is the season to stop waiting until everything looks impressive.
Start with what you have.
Write the article.
Make the phone call.
Apply for the opportunity.
Start the ministry.
Open the shop.
Share your testimony.
Invite the person.
Write the book.
Post the thing.
Take the next step.
You don’t have to know what step ten looks like to take step one.
And you don’t have to build the whole staircase before God asks you to climb it.
Sometimes obedience is simply putting one foot in front of the other and trusting that God will meet you there.
I’ve learned that some of the sweetest things God has done in my life didn’t begin with a big moment.
They began with a small yes.
A yes when I was scared.
A yes when I didn’t have all the answers.
A yes when I couldn’t see how the story would turn out.
And looking back, I can see that God was already writing something beautiful long before I understood what He was doing.
So if you’ve been waiting for the perfect time, maybe you don’t need another sign.
Maybe you just need to take the next faithful step.
Let God handle the size of the opportunity.
Let Him handle the audience.
Let Him handle the outcome.
Your job is simply to be faithful with what He has placed in your hands.
Because you never know what God might do with your little yes.
“For who hath despised the day of small things?” — Zechariah 4:10, KJV
Maybe this is your season to stop waiting.
Maybe it’s time to begin.
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll look back one day and realize that the thing you thought was too small was actually the beginning of something much bigger than you could have imagined.
Keep going.
God is not finished yet.
